Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: GUARDING
THE ALLEGED VIOLATIONS BELOW (1a AND 1b) HAVE BEEN GROUPD BECAUSE THEY INVOLVE SIMILAR OR RELATED HAZARDS THAT MAY INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY RESULTING FROM AN ACIDENT. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognzied hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible hand/finger amputation: a) Machine Shop - Mechanical press brake had an unguarded foot pedal that could inadvertantly be activated while an employee had their hand/finger in the point of operation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to cover the foot pedal with a fabricated metal guard.
