29 CFR 1910.132(a): Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. a. Kingspan Benchmark, Columbus Ohio, Marion Road workplace: On or about April 30, 2015, the employer failed to provide protective clothing and require the use of said clothing that protects employee extremities (the arm) during manufacturing processes in the FIP area and the handling of panels in the Glue Coating operation area. Methylene bisphenyl isocyanate (MDI) is an active hazardous chemical ingredient in the FIP panel manufacturing process and in the adhesive applied to panels in the Glue Coating operation. MDI has specific skin contact hazards, including dermal absorption and skin contact shall be prevented by protective equipment use.
