Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1060(a): The employer shall provide a training program for each employee using ladders and stairways, as necessary. The program shall enable each employee to recognize hazards related to ladders and stairways, and shall train each employee in the procedures to be followed to minimize these hazards. (a) Avant Datacom Solutions, Inc. @ 3001 S. Federal Boulevard, Denver, CO 80236: On and before July 18th, 2014, the employer did not ensure employees received ladder training which included procedures to be followed to minimize hazards related to ladder use. Employees were using A-framed ladders to install J-hooks for hanging telecommunication wires. On July 18th, 2014, an employee fell from the A-frame ladder he was working on and died as a result of his injuries. The condition exposed employees to the improper use of A-frame ladders and fall hazards of approximately 10 feet. Abatement Note: The employer shall ensure that each employee has been trained by a competent person in the following areas, as applicable: a) The nature of fall hazards in the work area; b) The correct procedures for erecting, maintaining, and disassembling the fall protection systems to be used; c) The proper construction, use, placement, and care in handling of all stairways and ladders; d) The maximum intended load-carrying capacities of ladders; and e) The standards contained in the subpart.
