Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck by hazards during tree removal operations. On or about July 20, 2013, at a residence located at 1227 Chestnut Street in Mt. Carmel, Illinois an employee was fatality injured as a result of being struck by falling limbs during tree trimming operations performed on a damaged tree. The relevant factors pertaining to the tree pruning operation were not considered nor communicated sufficiently to employees regarding a safe work plan. Among other means, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard would be to follow American National Standard, ANSI Z133 - 2012, For Arboricultural Operations Safety Requirements, Section 8 Work Procedures as applicable.
