Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by thefiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) lift-off barge covers, which may become uncontrolled during high wind conditions. (a) On or about April 18, 2013, employees were required to work with FRP barge covers as part of loading a barge in wind gusts that measured up to 47 mph. The employees were thereby exposed to struck-by hazards created by the covers becoming uncontrolled in the wind.
