Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and/or struck-by hazards: a) Jobsite: 320 Hunting Park Avenue - On or about 1/29/2013, the trusses on the wood frame structure of the Special Victims Unit (SVU) were not adequately braced/restrained. In addition the trusses had been loaded with two stacks of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) floor boards. The floor board stacks exceeded the maximum load which could be safely placed on properly braced trusses. An acceptable means of abatement among other methods is to: 1) Follow Building Component Safety Information (B.C.S.I.) on how to install lateral and diagonal bracing with the minimum size bracing and lateral restraint materials of 2 x 4 stress-graded lumber or approved proprietary metal restraints. 2) Follow B.C.S.I. for appropriate location to stack materials. 3) Follow B.C.S.I. for the maximum height of plywood that can safely be stacked on top of the trusses. 4) Refrain from cutting or altering any structural members of a truss unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer or truss design drawing. 5) Ensure personnel performing truss installation are properly trained in the B.C.S.I. requirements.
