Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed and/or stuck by equipment in that: a) On or about September 20, 1985 at 7271 S. Eagle Street, Englewood, Colorado, inadequate procedure and equipment were used in the course of spotting a 1974 Fruehauf, Model #RFF-WI-20 trailer. Among other methods, one feasibel and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to: a) Assure that safety latch of pintle hook of truck is latched after trailer has been disconnected to assure blockage of pintle hook and assure reattchment does not occur: b) Assure a safe procedure of trucks being moved away from trailer prior to releasing the brakes of trailers; c) Utilizing wheel chocks on the trailers to block and prevent movement of trailers upon disconect: and d) Establish, require and enforce application of safe operating procedures.
