OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a.) On or about August 6, 2012 and prior to that date employees were using a Caterpillar D8-N bulldozer with a patched fuel tank, exposing employees to a potential fire hazard. b.) On or about August 6, 2012 and prior to that date employees were using a Caterpillar D8-N bulldozer that had wood chips and wood dust packed in between the rear guard and the fuel tank, exposing employees to a potential fire hazard. Feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard would be to: -Read and follow the Caterpillar D8-N operation manual which states: "Remove all flammable materials such as fuel, oil and other debris before they accumulate on the machine" and "Repair any loose or damaged fuel and oil lines, tubes and hoses. Leaks can cause fires. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair or replacement." -Read and follow the Association of Equipment Manufacturers Safety Manual for crawler tractor/loaders which states: "Check for fuel, oil or hydraulic leaks. Repair the leaks and clean the machine before you operate" and "Remove all trash or debris from the machine. Make sure that oily rags or other flammable material are removed from the machine."
