29 CFR 1910.184(c)(2): Slings will not be shortened with knots or bolts or other make shift devices: On or about April 24, 2012, and at times prior thereto, the employer did not ensure the legs of a 20 foot type SG grade 80 alloy steel chain sling being used to lift a hydraulic winch platform were not shortened by knotting, exposing employees to a crushed-by hazard.
