Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees. At the Current Events, LLC workplace, the employer did not furnish a place of employment free from recognized struck-by hazards created by unsecured storage racks. In the "chairs and tables" section, three 2-tier storage racks measuring 8, 20, and 42 feet long, 12 feet high, and 3 feet wide were unanchored at the base and were loaded and unloaded of product using a forklift. Employees were exposed to possible serious injuries if the storage racks and/or the material on them tipped over or fell. Reference: American National Standards Institute MH16.1 - (2008), Specification for the Design, Testing and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks, Section 1.1.7. "All rack columns shall be anchored to the floor with anchor bolts capable of resisting the forces caused by the horizontal and vertical load on the rack." One feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to secure the racks using anchor bolts in accrodance with ANSI MH16.1 - (2008).
