Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
11.5.9.1 NMAC Section 50-9-5(A), NMSA 1978 (New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Act): Every employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees: Employees are exposed to the hazard of being struck by a falling finger board where the finger boards are not secured by bolting, welded, hinged and pinned, or attached by othere equivalent means to its support beam. The method of securing the finger board to the support beam is an industry standard as evidenced by the requirement of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Publication #54, paragraph 9.3.16. One feasible and acceptable method includes but is not limited to welding a chain strong enough to hold the finger, whic connects the finger to the support beam.
