Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while operating an underhung hoist with a missing safety latch: a)At the Block Machine: On or about December 28, 2011 and at times prior employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while using a underhung hoist without a safety latch. The employer failed to ensure frequent inspections had been performed by an operator or other designated person of the hoist for missing or defective equipment. A feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard is to conduct frequent inspections during operations of the hoist for missing or defective equipment in accordance with The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30.10-2009, Hooks.-2009,
