Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY: The load and/or lift components should the lift fail. a)At the facility, on or about 11/29/11: Two surface mounted, two post Rotary automotive lifts were being operated without their swing support arm locks being operational. b)At the facility, on or about 11/29/11: One surface mounted, four post Rotary automobile lift was being operated without its rolling lift lock being operational. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to: Ensure automotive lifts are operated in accordance with the Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. standard for automotive lifts, Paragraph 4.4.2 which states; The operator shall use all applicable safety features provided on the automotive lift, and operate the lift in accordance with the instructions furnished by the lift manufacturer. Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
