Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the load and equipment should the over head hoist or below the hook lifting devices fail: a)On or about 9/20/11, Near Dip Tanks: An overhead hydraulic hoist was in use without being provided with inspections, without having a load rating for the hoist or support structure, with a broken hook latch, and with directional controls that were not labeled. b)On or about 9/20/11, Near Dip Tanks: Under the hook lifting devices used to dip parts into baths were in use without being inspected and without any load ratings. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: 1.Mark the pendant controls as to what they control in accordance with ANSI B30.16-2007, Section 16-2.3. 2.Mark the rated load capacity on the hoist and support structure in accordance with ANSI B30.16-2007, Section 16-1.1, 3.Provide inspections for the hoist system in accordance with ANSI B30.16-2007. 4.Inspect the lifting devices in accordance with ANSI B30.20-2010, Section 20-1.3. 5.Mark the rated load capacity on the lifting devices in accordance with ANSI B30.20-2010, Section 20-1.2. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
