Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a struck by hazard from entering work areas with inadequate lighting: a) Loading Dock Walkway to the Bridge - Employees used a pedestrian walk way in inadequate lighting to cross the loading dock where forklifts were routinely used to load and unload trucks. Illumination readings were between 1.67 and 2.42 foot candles, observed on or about 11-29-11. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard includes, but is not limited to: Install the recommended quantity of light on the dock area as recommended in the American National Standard Practice for Industrial Lighting (A11.1-1973, Revision of A11.1-1965 (R1970) Table 1, Page 12.)
