Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to Ammonia at/in the Engine Room. A.) On or about 8/11/11, at the Monroe distribution facility, the employer did not assure an emergency eye wash/shower unit was located external to the Ammonia refrigeration engine room, per ANSI/IIAR 2, 2008 edition, section 13.3.1.4. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET). One feasible means of abatement is to install an emergency eye wash/shower unit external to the engine room.
