Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CUTS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that the operator of a coil hoist was exposed to the pinch point of two steel coils when he was preparing to lift a coil to the vertical position from the horizontal position: One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a coil upender. RAW STOCK: AN EMPLOYEE RECEIVED A LACERATION OF HIS LEFT INDEX FINGER WHEN HE REACHED INTO A STEEL COIL TO MOVE A SPACER AND ATTACH A HOIST HOOK. THE SPACER MOVED CAUSING THE COIL TO SLIP AND PINCH HIS FINGER. SPECIFIC ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION DEMONSTRATING THAT ABATEMENT IS COMPLETE MUST BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1).
