Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to head/body injuries caused by aggressive behavior of llamas while performing diagnostic, therapeutic or routine procedures. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a llama chute as a restraint means in conjunction with a written SOP on the correct handling of llamas by employees during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures or routine antibody collections. CAPRALOGICS, INC, 235 CZESKI RD, HARDWICK, MA: EMPLOYEES DOING PROCEDURES INVOLVING LLAMAS LACK A RESTRAINT SYSTEM (LLAMA CHUTE) AND A CLEAR SOP FOR THE CORRECT HANDLING OF LLAMAS DURING DIAGNOSTIC, THERAPEUTIC OR ROUTINE ANTIBODY COLLECTION PROCEDURES. SPECIFIC ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION DEMONSTRTING THAT ABATEMENT IS COMPLETE MUST BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1).
