Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that an employee was exposed to potential electrical hazards while dismantling an amusement ride where manufacturer disassembly instructions were not followed: a) On or about March 6, 2011, at a worksite located at 11831 Old Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, FL, an employee was allowed to disassemble the TM 1800 Euro Scooter attraction while a part of the ride was still electrically energized. The employer did not follow manufacturer's disassembly instructions outlined in the attraction manual which required that Power lines 1, 2 and 3 be disconnected prior to disassembly procedures being started. This failure to follow mandatory guidelines left the attraction lights energized during the disassembly process. Abatement Note(s): One feasible means of abatement, among others, is to ensure that all manufacturers' disassembly instructions are followed and that all potential electrical sources are disconnected prior to disassembly of this type amusement ride.
