Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards due to being struck by collapsing industrial steel display racks. a) Worksite, 236 N Main Street, Sayville, NY 11782 - On 05/07/11 employees were exposed to crushing and fall hazards while disassembling an industrial steel garage door display rack. The rack collapsed injuring the employees. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, feasible method's of abatement to reduce this hazard is to: a. Follow manufacturers assembly instructions and drawings, (Ref. The Emes Marketing Inc. (EMI) Garage Door Display Assembly Instructions Page one: Please Note: Fore ease of assembly, all panels should be assembled and garage doors should be installed lying flat on the floor: Requires a minimum of three people. b. Instruct the employees regarding the necessary precautions to observe when disassembling the display, particularly the associated hazard of removing the upper frame from the lower frame before removing all the sliding display door panels. Note: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
