Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)In the workshop of a building located at 6791 NW 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: A damaged 12 ft. fiberglass a-frame ladder with a broken rung on the non-climbing side was not inspected periodically, taken out of service, discarded, destroyed in such a manner as to render it useless, or repaired by a competent mechanic, on or about May 3, 2011. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to inspect the ladder, preferably before each use and when structural damage or other hazardous defects are found, the ladder shall be taken out of service and either discarded or repaired by a competent mechanic.
