Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to being struck by vehicular traffic. (a)Highway 16 East of Rolling Fork - On or about August 10, 2011 employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while working along the road. The employees were not protected by high-visibility apparel. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow the final rule on Worker Visibility of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Section 634.3 which requires use of high visibility apparel, such as vests that meet the ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 Standard for High Visibility Safety Apparel.
