Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by vehicular traffic: a) for employees involved in landscape/lawn care activities and parking the company truck and trailer in active traffic lanes to offload lawn care equipment, as noted on or about 12/15/2010. On this date the work truck/trailer, parked in an active traffic lane, was rear-ended resulting in injuries to multiple employees. No warning signs or cones had been setup to establish a safe work zone to warn other vehicular traffic of potential obstacles. Abatement: Means of feasible abatement includes, but may not be limited: 1. When Parking the truck and trailer equipment for work in subdivisions, contact the owner's association to determine safe parking locations which are not exposed to highway traffic. 2. Where parking in a subdivision is not possible, establish a safe work zone in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
