Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by the counterweight of an excavator: (a) Location - Kimball Street, Cambridge, MA: On or about 01/04/2011, employees were walking in close proximity to and exposed to being struck by the rotating counterweight of a Komatsu 300 Excavator where there was no swing radius protection system being utilized. One method of abatement, among others, would be to erect a barrier around the area or to train and instruct employees to stay out of the danger zone. "ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CITATION"
