Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. a) On or about November 12, 2010 - In the Warehouse at Overhead Door #5, a forklift (make and model unknown), was used to elevate an employee on a wood pallet, which did not meet the requirements for elevating personnel. The employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately six (6) feet. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to provide and require the use of a work platform designed to lift personnel in accordance with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASME), B56.1-2005 Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks, Section 4.17. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
