Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of using a work platform wider than the width of the rough terrain forklift exposing employees to a fall from elevation hazard: On the northside of the building, employees engaged in steel erection activities worked from a shop made basket that extended beyond the width of the SkyTrak Rough Terrain Forklift that it was attached to. This condition exposed employees to fall hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to use a personal platform that has a width less than the width of the forklift in accordance to American National Standards Institute (ASME) B56.6-2002, Safety Standard For Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks. Disclaimer: 1. You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above. 2. The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases. 3. The employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out an appropriate method of abatement.
