North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard: a)jobsite - on July 27, 2010, employees were using a 1" bull rope with a 10-lb, 5", 4 1/2 ton WARN snatch block to drag logs out of a 20' right-of-way. The snatch block was designed to be used with a 3/8" to 1/2" wire or synthetic rope. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the size of rope to be used with a particular sheave/snatch block. Employee training in proper use of snatch blocks would reduce the potential of them using the incorrect size rope.
