Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an entrapment and crushing hazard: a) Location: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at the Southwest Airlines Cargo Facility: The employer did not develop or implement procedures to address the control of potentially hazardous stored or residual energy for an employee (laborer) who was dismantling a hydraulic lift at the air cargo renovation worksite, exposing the employee to crush-by or struck-by hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to comply with the requirements of the ANSI Standard A10- 2006.Specifically, Section 5.25 of this standard that states that "all potentially hazardous stored or residual energy shall be relieved, disconnected, restrained, and otherwise rendered safe."
