Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flying plastic projectile hazards: a) On or about February 15, 2011. The employer used plastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) piping system to transport compressed air. Employees were exposed to flying plastic projectiles hazards due to possible mechanical failure of the PVC system. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED Among other methods, the following are feasible and acceptable methods to correct the hazard: 1. Replace the current PVC compressed air piping system with materials suitable for the maximum air pressure as recommended by the Plastic Pipe Institute, such as ABS or metal. 2. Follow the ANSI/ASME B31.1- 2007, Power Piping as applicable.
