Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to extremely low temperatures which could result in hypothermia: (a) "Z" and "W" Warehouses - The "F" and "G" freezers did not have an operable mechanism to allow employees to manually open the doors from the inside of the freezer. The inside manual release mechanism on these doors were damaged and disconnected, exposing employees to extremely low temperatures in the event the electric door openers malfunctioned. Among Other Feasible and Acceptable Methods to Correct this Hazard: Install a door handle or release mechanism that complies with Underwriter's Laboratory Standard 471 and/or the National Sanitation Foundation Standard NSF/ANSI 7-2009.
