Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: At the establishment located at 600 South University in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the Shop area, the employer did not ensure that preventive maintenance procedures for automotive lifts were conducted to guarantee the continued safe operation of the lifts. On or about August 13, 2010, and times prior to, the Rotary Lift Slide Rack Lift, Model PT20H-TPC, in Bay 6, exhibited hazardous conditions such as but not limited to elevating rapidly, jumping, and slowly lowering. Oil leaked from the lift and saturated the floor in the basement area below. These conditions exposed employees to crushing injuries. Feasible means of abatement would be to ensure that periodic inspection and preventive maintenance procedures developed for automotive lifts are being followed and documentation of the inspections are maintained.
