Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the following: a.At the establishment, an employee was exposed to caught between hazards when the orange hydraulic transmission jack he was using when working on a semi-truck transmission estimated to weigh approximately 1,000 pounds unexpectedly lowered. The company's investigation found that the jack lowered when the transmission jack's handle struck the hydraulic release valve. The transmission jack was put back into service without abatement of the caught between hazard. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct the hazards are to follow, "The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, "Safety Standard for Portable Automotive Lifting Devices" (ASME PALD-2009).
