Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to a hazardous tree being bucked: On or about 10/10/11 an employee was injured while bucking and limbing a 40'section of a fallen tree. The employee was removing the limbs when the 18" diameter tree rolled over the employee pinning him underneath causing a severely broken ankle. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to: (1) Provide all employees a job briefing before work begins and communicate bucking operations in the work plan. Reference ANSI Z133.1-2006 8.7.1. (2) Consider limbs under tension are hazardous and use appropriate cutting techniques and precautions. Reference ANSI Z133.1-2006 8.7.5.-2006
