Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards and falling from heights: Building 179: Employees were hoisted on the load hook of the Production Equipment 10 ton overhead bridge crane to access the inner diameter of a large aircraft engine housing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to discontinue the practice of hoisting personnel on the load hook of overhead cranes and implement an acceptable method to access the interior space of large aircraft parts.
