Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to fall hazards: On or about 09/13/10 an employee working at the Chestnut Hill Road tree removal project was exposed to fall hazards. The employee was fatally injured while engaged in tree removal activities. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to follow guidance set forth in ANSI Z133.1-2006 for Arboricultural Operations-Safety Requirements: Page 20, section 8.1.1: and conduct a visual hazard assessment, including a root collar inspection prior to climbing, entering, or performing any work in a tree.
