Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads: Dye House: The following deficiencies were observed on underhung bridge cranes: A.Crane #93, Production Equipment: The sheave was worn and the wire rope was not reeving correctly onto the hoist drum. B.Crane #6, Robbins & Meyers: The wire rope had excessive wear. C.Crane #7, Robbins & Meyers: This crane and hoist capacity markings did not match. All components are required to reflect the capacity of the lowest minimum rated load of any individual piece of equipment or structure within the system. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is: Promptly correct any deficiencies noted during the periodic inspection of the equipment by an outside company. Implement a program of monthly wire rope and hook inspections in accordance with generally recognized industry guidelines. Ensure that all crane components are installed and marked in accordance with generally recognized industry guidelines. Specific Abatement Documentation is Required
