Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards: On or about January 24, 2011, the employer did not ensure that employees followed the manufacturer's instructions for the safe operation of a digger derrick. Employees were exposed to an electrocution hazard when operating an SDP EZ Hauler (S/N 10195388851) digger derrick without the fiberglass insulating boom stage installed between the bucket and the metal boom. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be for the employer to: Follow all instructions established in the Manufactures Operators Manual and ANSI A10.31-1995 Safety Requirements, Definitions, and Specifications for Digger Derricks.
