Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and fire/explosion hazards resulting from the handling of compressed gases: On or about April 6, 2010 and times prior thereto, employees moved nitrogen cylinders on and off pallets manually by rolling or dragging them. The employer did not have means in place to guard against dropping the cylinders or permitting them to violently strike against each other or other surfaces. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to use a material handling device such as a hand truck, forklift truck, or cylinder pallet system in accordance with Section 5.5 of CGA P-1-2006.e
