Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: On or about 12/08/2010 at 1011 NW 6th Street, in Homestead, Florida, the employer did not ensure that employees operating a Clark powered industrial truck fastened his seat belt. The unit's seat belt assembly was removed and employees were exposed to crushing hazards. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to install a seat belt assembly and to ensure that employees fasten their seat belts when operating powered industrial trucks in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
