Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of falling and caught- in-between: On or about 8/31/10, at a facility located at 9710 NW 91st Court, Medley, Florida, the following hazards existed: a)A Yale forklift was being operated without seatbelts equipped to the unit. b)The employer did not follow the manufacturers recommendation of prohibiting employees from standing on a pallet while being lifted to an elevated level by the forks of the powered industrial truck. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these hazards would be the installation of a seat belt assembly as referred by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers/American National Standards Institute, ASME/ANSI B56.1 and to follow the manufacturer's recommendation prohibiting personnel from climbing onto equipment. NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
