Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by lightning: On or about 04/26/10, a ground operations worker engaged in headset communications during the work process of pushing back an aircraft at gate F7, was exposed to a lightning strike from heavy storms in the airport vicinity. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the "Station Operations Manual", Section C.5.2, and stop all headset communications when a lightning storm is within 3 miles. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
