Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an injury from an unintended actuation of a foot pedal not protected by a guard: (a)Cornering Machine Area - Employees were exposed to an amputation hazard when the foot pedal on the Champion Cornering duplex machine (Model DC, Serial number 1748-1990, 115 volts) was not covered, on or about November 3, 2010. IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.212(a)1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operator(s) and other employees from hazards created by the unguarded foot pedal on the Champion Cornering machine: (a)Cornering Machine Area - Employees were exposed to an amputation hazard when the foot pedal on the Champion Cornering duplex machine (Model DC, Serial number 1748-1990, 115 volts) was not covered, on or about November 3, 2010. ABATEMENT Among other methods, one (1) feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to guard the foot pedal. VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
