Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: A) While operating overhead hoists in the shipping and receiving departments the hooks on four of the CM 2 ton hoists did not have a safety latch installed, on or about 3/30/11. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to install safety latches on each hook as required in ASME B30.16-2007 sections 16-1.2.9 The employer should perform frequent inspections on its hoists to ensure that defects are identified and repaired. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
