Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by sharp pieces of plastic(PVC). On or about 08/04/10 at 2225 Skyland Ct., Norcross, GA: Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards, while performing work in the electrical technician shop, machine shop and the assembly room area. PVC pipe was being used to transport compressed air. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" 1. The employer shall only use material with shatter resistance properties. (Reference: Plastic Pipe Institute document). The employer shall follow the manufacturer recommendation on application of PVC. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
