Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: fall hazards while working and standing on the guardrails of the scissor lifts. On or about Friday March 19, 2010 at 206 Gunn Drive Centerville, GA 31028 two employees were observed working and standing on the guardrails of the scissor lifts at heights up to 25 feet to elevate themselves on to the bottom of the trusses of the building without being protected from a fall hazard. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would include, but are not limited, to: the employer instructing the employees operating the scissor lifts to follow the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) A92.6-1992 Self Propelled Elevating Work Platforms which requires personnel to maintain a firm footing on the platform floor while working thereon.
