Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: dust explosions and fire hazards due to a dust collector being located inside the building. a) Sanding Area - There was a shop assembled dust collector located at the sanding area which was located inside the Four Daughters Building, observed on or about 12-22-11. b) Assembly Department - There were two Shop Fox Model W 1687 Dust Collectors located within two feet of each other inside the Four Daughters Building, observed on or about 3-01-11. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Among other methods, feasible abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Modify the enclosureless dust collectors to meet all the requirements of NFPA 664 8.2.2.5.1.4.(7) which allows these dust collectors inside a building if 7 criteria are met. 2. Relocate the dust collection systems outside the building.
