Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls from elevations and thermal burns: a) Express Energy/Detweiler/rig # 5, Dimock, PA. The employer did not ensure that an employee working from a guardrailed platform of Rig#5 approx 30 ft above the ground, was provided with a ready and convenient means of escape, in the event of a well blow-out. The Geronimo Line was attached to the side of the rig mast at or near the rear of the platform and was not easily accessible to the employee, as observed, on or about April 20, 2010. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to install the Geronimo line in accordance with American Petroleum Institute (API) RP 54 Section 6.10.1 Auxiliary Escape and the Geronimo Manufacturer's Operating manual.
