Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. The employer failed to furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees: The employer did not ensure that a place of employment was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees as follows: a.Located in the tow truck repair facility at Silver State Towing, an employee was exposed to improper installation of a compressed air system used to operate pneumatic tools. Schedule 40, PVC was installed to transport compressed air at 120 psi and exposed employee to serious injury in the event the PVC shattered. Reference: OSHA.gov, Letter of Interpretation dated February 28, 1991. "Since PVC material does not possess shatter resistant property, and since it is very clear from the industry's recognized practice that PVC pipes are prohibited for above ground transportation of compressed air and gases (unless the pipelines are encased in shatter resistant material), any such use by the employers, where employees may be exposed to hazards, will be in violation of Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act (or NRS 618.375). One feasible means of abatement would be to install a shatter resistant material designed specifically for the transporting of compressed air.ressed
