Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck by moving vehicles while vehicles enter and exit the warehouse: a) for employees entering the warehouse through the parking lot at 212 7th Street East Bradenton, FL 34209 who are exposed to being struck by vehicles backing our of the warehouse. Vehicle operators who enter the warehouse to load and unload flooring materials must back out without a clear view of employees who may be entering from the parking lot. As observed on or about 10/16/2009, no procedures were in place for the safe operation of vehicles and control of traffic. Abatement Note(s): General methods of control applicable in these circumstances may include, but are not be limited to, the following: a.Engineering Controls: i.Used of spotter when any vehicle is traveling in the reverse direction. ii.To equip vehicles been used in the loading and unloading of materials and samples with backup alarms or sensors. iii.Posting warning signs and mirrors to aware vehicle operators of hazardous conditions and/or to maneuver in the interest of his safety and that of the safety of others. b.Administrative Controls: i.Establish company policy that address and recognizes struck-by hazards and inform to employees of means of recognized and limit the exposure to such hazard. ii.Posting warning signs and establish a walking path to aware and assist employees of hazardous conditions and/or prevent exposing into a struck-by hazard.
