Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about 12/14/09 at the south end of the Horizontal Lathes; emergency stop cord for conveyors #9 & #10 was so arranged and configured that upon activation the conveyor could be started a remote location other than where the emergency stop was activated. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED Feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this condition would be; arrange conveyor controls that in case of emergency stop, manual reset or start at the location where the emergency stop was initiated for the conveyor and associated equipment to resume operation. Reference; ASME B20.1-1996 Safety Standard for Conveyors and related equipment, Section 5.11.4 Emergency Stops and Restart.
